Terms of service
These are the terms you agree to by using Beauty Match. They are written to be read rather than to be impenetrable, and where something is a limit on what we will do for you it is said plainly rather than buried.
What Beauty Match is
Beauty Match helps you narrow down hair, skin, body and makeup products, and shows you how to apply them. It matches products to answers you give and, if you choose, to what a photograph appears to show. It is a shortlist and a guide. It is not a diagnosis, not a prescription, and not a substitute for a professional who can see you in person.
This is not medical advice
Nothing here diagnoses or treats anything. For hair loss, a persistent scalp condition, melasma, eczema, or any skin change that is spreading, bleeding or changing quickly, see a dermatologist rather than a website. Patch test anything new for 24 hours before you use it properly, and stop using anything that irritates your skin.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking a prescribed topical treatment, or under the care of a dermatologist, check with them before adding an active ingredient. We do not know any of that about you unless you tell us, and the matching cannot account for what it has not been told.
Accounts
An account is optional and free. You are responsible for the address you sign in with and for any password you set on it. Do not create an account for somebody else, and do not upload a photograph of somebody who has not agreed to it.
You must be 16 or older to create an account. Beauty Match is not built for children and we do not knowingly keep information about them.
Photographs and generated images
Photographs are optional everywhere they appear. If you upload one, you confirm it is of you, or of somebody who has agreed to it, and that you have the right to upload it.
The makeup guide can build a figure that resembles you and draw the look on it. That figure is generated, it is an approximation, and it shows finish and placement rather than a shade match. Do not treat it as a photograph of you wearing a product, and do not buy on the strength of a colour it shows. How your photograph is handled and who receives it is set out in the privacy policy.
Do not use the image features to make pictures of anybody else, to impersonate anyone, or to produce anything you would not want attached to your own name.
Paid plans
Some features are paid. Prices are shown before you buy and are charged through Stripe, who handle the payment. We never see or store your card details.
- Individual is billed once a year and renews automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal and drops you to the free allowance at the end of the period you have paid for. Everything you have saved stays where it is.
- Professional plans begin with a 14 day trial that needs no card, then bill monthly until cancelled. If a subscription lapses, the account becomes read only rather than closed, and any result pages your clients already hold keep working.
- Monthly allowances reset on the first of each month and do not roll over.
- You can cancel at any time from your account. We do not make you email anybody to do it.
If we ever change a price, it applies from your next renewal and not before, and you will be told in advance.
Refunds
If something is genuinely broken, or you were charged for something you did not intend to buy, tell us and we will refund it. We are a small operation and we would rather resolve it than argue about it.
Affiliate links
Some links to retailers earn us a commission if you buy. That never affects what gets recommended: the matching scores products on your answers and has no commission data in it at all. Prices shown are approximate and change constantly, so the retailer's own page is always the accurate one.
What you may not do
- Scrape, bulk download or republish the product data, guides or matching logic.
- Try to break, overload, or get around the limits on any part of the site, including the scan and image allowances.
- Upload anything unlawful, or anybody else's photograph without their agreement.
- Present our output as a professional consultation you are qualified to give, unless you are and it is.
Your content, and ours
What you upload stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the features you asked for: to analyse a photograph when you press analyze, to generate a figure when you ask for one, and to store what you have chosen to keep. We do not use your photographs or your generated images to train anything, and we do not sell them.
The writing, the guides, the product research and the site itself are ours. You are welcome to link to any of it.
Availability
We try to keep the site up and correct, and we will not promise either absolutely. Formulas get reformulated, products get discontinued, retailers change prices, and features change or go away. Check the bottle.
Limits
Beauty Match is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited, including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
This does not take away rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Ending it
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from your account page, and it is immediate. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, and we will tell you why unless telling you would itself be a problem.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that is how you accept the change. If you do not, delete your account.
