Why you can believe the rankings are not for sale
Every site says commission does not affect their recommendations. Most cannot prove it. Here is why we can.
The matching engine is a separate piece of software from the shopping links. It takes your quiz answers, turns them into weighted tags, scores every product against those tags, and returns the best fit. A product record in our database contains its brand, line, category, size, price, the concerns it suits, and a plain English explanation. It contains no commission rate, no payout, and no merchant priority.
The affiliate tag is added at the very last moment, when the page draws the shopping buttons, long after the ranking has already been decided. The ranking code cannot read the affiliate configuration. It is not passed in.
The practical result is that plenty of our top matches are six dollar drugstore products that pay us almost nothing, because for several categories that is the honest answer.
What we do not do
- No paid placements. No brand can buy a position in the quiz, the directory or a guide.
- No sponsored posts presented as editorial. If that ever changes, it will be labelled at the top of the page, not in a footnote.
- No gifted product reviews. Nothing here is a review of a sample somebody sent us.
- No selling your data. See the privacy policy.
- No pretending we have live stock data. We list which retailers carry a product and link you to their page. Actual availability shows there, not here.
How to check us
Take the quiz twice with different budget answers. The recommendations change with your budget and your concerns, not with which retailer pays more. Filter the directory to under fifteen dollars and you will find a large share of the catalogue there.
If you ever see something that reads like it was written for a brand rather than for you, tell us.
